Marcelo,

Thanx for the questions. Honestly though, I don't think much about DeMolay and how it applies to Iraq, a nation where there is no separation between church & state. Your asking did make me think about our virtues and how they apply to the mission we're performing here. Reverence for sacred things comes to mind, because we make a sincere effort to respect the beliefs & customs of this predominantly Shiite city. Najaf is one of the holiest cities in the Shiite Muslim world. There is a large cemetary which is where every Shiite would like to be buried. It is also the home of Al Imam Ali, a Shiite hero from centuries ago. Courtesy ties into it for the same respects. Fidelity is always on my mind, and is what drives me to complete our mission. Patriotism is probably the most obvious as a deployed US soldier. The poverty is difficult to deal with, but we are making progress in Najaf, and life is getting better for the people of Najaf. I hope this answers some of your questions. Stay cool.

Patrick
